It is very convenient to use WordPress categories to organize your posts. You many have many sub-posts under a main post or posts of different categories. In such case, it can be an incommodious task for you to arrange them properly. WordPress categories have brought a solution of this problem. WordPress Categories give you the convenience to show exactly the posts you want or exactly the way you want them in menus, widget or directly in your WordPress theme.
To get the advantage of WordPress categories, basically you have to follow the following two steps:

Creating WordPress Categories
To create WordPress categories, go to Posts -> Catgories page.

Notice that, there is a tab called Categories on the left side of the page. Now perform the following tasks:
- Fill in the category name
- Fill in the Slug which will be used in the category URLs
- Add New Category
Let’s make a new category named family posts
Your first category has been completed. Now, let’s make a sub-category of the Family posts named Nephews.
Just like the first category, fill in a name and slug and select Family posts as parent for the new category. After that, press Add New Category button to save your new sub-category.

Assigning posts to WordPress categories
After creating categories, you must want to add posts there. You can do this in two ways.
First way: Open a particular post or write a new post and then place a checkbox in the category where you want to assign your post to.
Second way: Bulk added posts to a category. For this purpose, go to Posts -> All Posts. Then select the posts that you want to add to a category. After that, click on the Bulk Actions tab and select Edit option. Finally, click on Apply button.
Now you will see a few options that you can adjust for those posts such as Categories section. To add the posts to category section, select your desired category and press the Update button.
Now, you will see the posts you’ve marked before belong to your chosen category.
